After all being a leader is all about - what you do, and how you do it. You have to become an action taker in every situation. These actions will define who you are. The good news is that there is a system, a series of steps that you can take in any situation that will define what the actions should be.

This first step in the system is to know absolutely with no doubt what so ever exactly what you are supposed to be doing. You have to have an objective; you have to have a goal. You have to ask the question - What's the OBJECTIVE? The goal has to be absolutely clear in your mind. You need clarity, no maybes and no fuzzy thinking. The clearer the objective is to you the straighter the line will be, to get to that objective. You want to eliminate the miss steps and the steps backwards, the zigging and the zagging. You want to avoid the winding road to get to you objective.

This is the time to keep you thinking clear and focused. The winding road towards the objective is a total waste of time, waste of energy and will destroy your confidence, cost more money and you will loose you momentum.

Ask the question - What is the objective? Don't just ask yourself. Ask your team. Ask your boss. You need to be sure of the task at hand, so ask questions of anyone and everyone until you are clear. Know what is expected and go and get as many details as you can so that the end result is clear.

Be the arrow. Your objective should be straight ahead of you in your mind.

There are many possibilities as to how to achieve the objective. By asking questions, clarifying and focusing many alternate methods of achieving the objective will be revealed; will open your mind to new and different possibilities, new thoughts, better ways of doing things and new efficiencies.

It is much easier to come up with a plan to achieve an objective if the objective is very clear in your mind. This is the foundation that you are building you reputation, your sense of worth upon. Become the rock - get this step right.
