It's a crazy world out there.
We go into our own business with a great idea, wanting more flexibility and control over our lives.
You're excited. You're pumped. You're ready to go to market with your products and services. And the market is ready for you and what you have to offer right?
But, you soon realise, that there are many other businesses just like you, who are out there in the market selling their products and services just like yours.
Mmm, where to from here.
You start looking at how you can be different and stand out from your competitors. Do you reduce your price? Do you sell that it is the best quality?
Because I guess that's what everyone else does? So if everyone else is doing that, you're not being unique.
How can you be unique then? Great question!
Firstly, it's important to understand that humans only buy from people that they know, like and trust.
People don't buy from a business, they buy from you.
Can you now see why reducing your prices won't work, because that's about your product not about you?
This is your chance to make a difference and create a shift in your industry. Because most business owners have never given much thought to their Unique Selling Proposition (USP).
They have never really asked themselves what makes them different from the crowd, and why others should buy from them.
What we have seen is that crafting a great USP is one of the most important factors in determining your success, because this is one of the first things that your prospects will be exposed to when they see your website or meet you in person.
So, how do you go about creating your USP?
Good news, it's very simple, because you are already 'unique'.
You are already different from everyone else in the world, because there is only one of 'YOU'.
Let's now work through Three Steps on how you can create a powerful USP for your business.
1. Craft your story
As individuals we all have different stories that get us to where we are today. What is YOUR story? Define it as clearly as you can.
Who are you? What's your background? What are your beliefs? Why are you in business? These are some of the questions you should ask yourself. Crafting your story will help you tell others who you are, how you're different and help you stand out from the crowd and separate you from the masses.
Place no judgement on your story, no matter how big or small it is to you, you will be surprised at how many people will relate to your story and connect with you.
The key to your Unique Selling Proposition is not to appeal to everybody, rather 'attract' those who find you compelling.
2. What's your compelling 'Why'?
This is what gets you out of bed in the morning. Why did you start your business? What are your goals? What people do you want to serve? What is different about your business? What unique emotions do you want to evoke in people?
Make sure you 'Why' is crystal clear to your prospects.
Having a great 'why' will let you have a great USP that attracts tons of prospects to you like a magnet. This is because you are 100% certain about you, your business and what you have to offer. Your prospects see that and are drawn to it.
3. Your Story + Your Why = Your USP Statement
Now it's time to create. So what you need to do is combine Your Story with Your Why and you will have Your USP into a short, clear and concise statement. It's important that use your USP consistently across all your marketing, when you meet people and when you communicate with them.
Remember: You want your prospects and clients to easily remember your USP, so make sure it is brief, clear, and concise.
Now all you need to do is take Action and create your USP.
