Scabies is an itchy condition produce don your skin by a tiny microscopic mite which digs into your skin. They feed of dead skin which the body sheds permanently. They usually itch more at night when you are in bed and they are active. Itching may also grow worst when the climate is hot and humid. They are tough bugs which resist scabies treatment to the end.

The appearance of scabies in your home does not come from bad hygiene or anything like that. They are transmitted by physical contact only. You might get it in a waiting room while attending a meeting. Your child might pick it up in school; your neighbor may have it. Infection is similar to lice infection; someone passes them on to you.

It is very important that scabies are reported to school immediately upon diagnosis by a doctor. They can spread like wild fire during the summer in closed quarters especially with small children. This is especially true in kindergarten and nursery where children are put to sleep together after recess and other activities.

Scabies are treated with creams and lotions. These are applied to the complete family at the same time. The best time to do it is at night right after dinner so it will have time to dry on your skin before going to bed. The cream or lotion must remain on for at least eight hours. Babies and small children shall be treated too even if they do not show signs of irritation or itching.

The itch comes from the female laying eggs under your skin and because of their waste irritating the pores. People who have extra sensitive skin may have to use an itch cream along with the scabies treatment for a while because the lesions will continue itching a couple of weeks after the scabies is gone.

Once treatment starts on the family and close relatives starts it is necessary to wash all bed sheets and clothes in hot water and then rinse them in cold water. The temperature change will kill any of them which are alive. All mattresses and sofas should also be thoroughly vacuumed by professionals to make sure that any strong resistant scab that can start the colony again is killed.

It is important that you inform the school, your church and every family or friend with whom you have close contact so they can make sure they are infection free. School is very important when you have small children, they may get really sick when the scabies attack is too intense. This is a matter that must be dealt with immediately and swiftly.
An itching and rash due to the presence of microscopic mites below the skin's surface needs early scabies treatment. When you kill scabies, you eliminate a secondary infection.
