Humans Have Been "Anti" Aging All Along
Words: 527 | Date: Wed, 1 Sep 2010

If you could go back in history, you would realize that anti-aging products have been in vogue since the early days of civilization, right from the days of those ancient Egyptian Kings and Queens. It was that, or all kinds of rituals and practices to ensure that the face and body retained their youthful looks and vigor.

Who can forget Cleopatra, who spent hours on beautifying herself so that she would be attractive to men? The males were not far behind either. All kinds of spices and herbs were rubbed onto the body in the name of experimentation, the major aim being immortality.

As a matter of fact, many of these plant products are utilized even today in natural and herbal beauty products. One example of this is olive leaves as prevention against aging; it was used as far back as 400 B.C. The Greeks and Romans had their own secrets related to the fountain of youth; the Alchemists had made their own discoveries. Even the Vedic culture from ancient times talks about people who seemed to remain ageless, just by following a well-balanced diet, exercising regularly and practicing meditation.

And so the experiments to delay the process of aging have continued through the centuries. Today, we have all kinds of non-invasive and invasive methods to delay the process of aging or halt premature aging. Of course, the easiest way to attain this would be the natural way—a nutritious diet, plenty of water, regular exercise, avoidance of sun exposure, keeping away from bad habits and a less stressful lifestyle.

Somehow, this is hard to do, especially where the modern era is concerned. It is more feasible to go in for beauty products or cosmetic surgery. If you plan to go in for beauty products, then it is advisable to choose natural products. For instance, products that contain Sesaflash or Matrixyl as ingredients, can work wonders on sagging skin and wrinkles on the face and neck. They penetrate the deeper dermal layers and tighten your skin. Thus, you have umpteen creams, lotions, gels, chemical peels and serums to choose from.

Another option is to go in for injectables. There are soft tissue fillers such as PMMA microspheres, collagen and hyaluronic acid. These substances are actually present within your body, but have decreased with age. So your skin needs to get them back, if sagging or wrinkles are to be avoided. Another popular product is Botulinum toxin or Botox, as it is popularly known. These injectables are not very expensive.

There are specific surgical procedures that are meant for certain areas of the body, such as—face lift and brow lift (pull and tighten skin); Blepharoplasty or surgery on the eyelids (remove eye bags or droopiness of eyelids); laser treatment (light therapy); dermabrasion and micro-dermabrasion.

The above-mentioned procedures come under the realm of cosmetic surgery. But if all else fails, go in for a complete plastic surgery. Who knows, at the rate that science and technology are advancing, someone might just discover the secret to eternal youth in the near future.
