Is my blood sugar level normal?

This is a common question among thousands of people with or without diabetes. This article will provide some information about what is normal for a blood sugar range and will explain how to effectively control your sugar levels for life.

First of all let's define what glucose really means. Glucose is simply another word for sugar that this within our blood. Glucose enters our body through the foods we eat and generally carbohydrates contain more glucose than all other foods.

Many people with or without diabetes can effectively make their level normal simply by controlling the foods they eat. The human body can regulate glucose levels through the body's use of insulin and glucagon hormones which are created by the pancreas. Problems often arise when the pancreas can't create proper amounts of glucose to keep your body in check.

What does Blood Sugar Level Actually Mean?

Also called blood glucose level, it is normally measured as milligrams per decilitre (mg/dl). A normal blood sugar level for the average human ranges around 80 mg/dl to 110 mg/dl.

This is the amount of glucose (sugar) that is in our blood. Our glucose levels change throughout the day. It rises following a meal for an hour or two by a few grams and is usually lowest when we wake up before breakfast. After a meal our levels can spike up to 140 mg/dl.

What does it mean if I have high or low blood sugar?

There is always a danger when your levels are extremely high or low. The first thing you should do is consult your physician.

For people with levels below 70mg/dl you may have a condition called hypoglycemia or suffer from low blood sugar.

Other signs of hypoglycemia include a lack of energy. Some people may lose consciousness when glucose is too low.

If you are over 150 mg/dl, then you may be hyperglycemic. If you constantly range above this range you may at risk for diabetes.

How Can I Make My Blood Sugar Level Normal?

In order to to do this you can make changes to your diet and activity levels.

Every person is different and your first step should be to consult with your doctor.

Some people find it difficult at first to lower their sugar in the blood. This requires certain types of recipes and meal plans that are not common in typical restaurants and homes.

Reducing carbohydrate intake is one common way of reducing sugar.

Whether you have diabetes or are concerned about it, there are steps you can take to improve your health with some proper meal planning.
