Back pain is a common problem amoung people today. Nearly everyone at one point or another will experience some degree of back pain. Back pain can be caused by poor posture, being over weight, stress, and an out of line spine. The good news is that much of the back pain can be mitigated or totally eliminated by doing a few simple things. I have had clients join my boot camp with some back issues, and in a few short weeks, there back pain was eliminated.
Maintaining a healthy weight range is one of the best ways for you to avoid placing any unnecessary stress on your back. Not sporting a fat gut will go a long way for you not having to place unnecessary stress on your lower back. Most people, especially men, with protruding bellies have severe back pain, due to all the stress that the weight of the belly places on the back in order to support it. I see many men in my boot camp that have fat guts that just put way too much stress on their backs.
Having very weak stomach muscles is another factor that causes back pain. People who have a weak stomach, are allowing their back to take up all the work to support the upper body. This is way too much work for the lower back. Of course you can always strengthen your core muscles. You should work your core muscles between two to three times per week. You can decrease the stress placed on your lower back simply by increasing your core strenght. At my boot camp we work the core muscles about three times per week. Anymore than that then you are just over training your ab muscles.
The third factor that causes back problems is poor posture. You would be surprised how many people have poor posture. At my boot camp, the members who first join us, about 40% of them have bad posture. You should always maintain proper posture, where you are standing totally erect. By working out regularly, and standing and seating correctly, you will be able to improve your posture greatly, therefore eliminating your back pain.
Lastly, stress can be a huge determinant of back pain. When people stress out their body becomes acidic, causing more and more tension throughout the body. And it's the back the neck that get the blunt end of all this stress. I have seen many of my own boot camp clients get super tight backs simply because of stress. As I do in my boot camp classes, I recommend you workout out on a regular basis. You should be doing abdominal exercises at least two to three times per week to strengthen your core muscles. You should also lose weight and flatten your stomach out. Also, a great flexibility program will alleviate a lot of back tension. And of the best things you could ever do is see a chiropractor to make sure your back is in complete alignment. Follow these simple steps and you will have a much healthier back.
