What Can a Chef Teach You About Losing Weight
Words: 611 | Date: Sun, 6 Jun 2010

The next time that you sit down to eat, think of it as an art. Learn to use some special techniques which will allow you to eat almost as if you were a chef. If you do this then you will appreciate food much more and begin to shift your excess fat.

So if you want to enjoy food much more than you ever have enjoyed it in the past, eat only at mealtimes, and focus all your attention on your food. What that means is that you don't watch TV or sit at the computer. Just sit down and put all of your focus on the food that you are about to eat. Notice the colors, the textures and how the food looks on your plate. Inhale deeply and enjoy all of the different aromas. Then when you are ready to begin eating, take small bites and really focus and appreciate all of the different flavors. Become aware of all the taste buds on your tongue and how various parts become stimulated by each tiny bit of food. Chew your food many times, and move it move it around your mouth slowly with your tongue before you finally swallow it. By doing this you will satisfy all of the taste buds on your tongue and obtain a greater understanding of food.

Each time that you swallow, focus your attention on all of the feelings and sensations in your stomach. As you continue eating, let yourself become aware of an ever increasing feeling of fullness in your stomach, so that when you have finished your meal, you will feel comfortably full, and completely satisfied. Then what you will also discover is that this full and satisfied feeling will last right up to your next regular meal.

So, instead of giving up food, or trying not to think about food, you can learn to appreciate it much more. This appreciation will help you to eat better and will also reduce snacking between meals because you cannot totally enjoy food if you are not really hungry when you begin to eat. If you are not really hungry when you begin to eat, your hunger will be satisfied with the first few bites of food. After that you will not be able to truly enjoy eating your meal.

Hunger is nature's signal to tell us that we should begin searching for food. Years ago, this signal was very effective. People would feel hungry and by the time they found food and prepared it, they were really hungry and consequently they could really enjoy their food without gaining weight. But today, with our modem convenience foods, we can eat as soon as we feel hungry, and so we become overweight.

We have learned from our culture that hunger is a bad thing and one should never be hungry. If we become hungry between meals, we often snack on something to satisfy our hunger. Consequently, we seldom know what real hunger is. Hunger is only a bad thing when someone is starving to death and is unable to obtain food. Otherwise, in normal everyday life, hunger helps us to enjoy our food when we eat.

So whenever you feel hungry and it's not time for you to eat, enjoy that feeling because what is happening at that point is that you body is using up your excess fat. Really learn to enjoy that feeling of hunger and get a deep satisfaction from it because whenever you feel hungry, you will know that you are accomplishing your goal and reducing your weight.
