Every one of us is an Internet marketing newbie at one point in our life. That is okay because our lack of knowledge is actually a benefit in the early days of our Internet marketing careers.

However there is much an Internet marketing newbie needs to learn if they expect to make money on the Internet.

1. It is more competitive online then you can even imagine. I suspect most Internet marketers would never start if they realized just how competitive the Internet really is.

In some ways it was easier to make money 10 or 15 years ago when there was less competition. In other ways it's easier to make money now because many of the success strategies have been developed and can be taught to an Internet marketing newbie.

2. Selling products on the Internet takes a lot of traffic. Most online business owners do not really understand this concept.

For some reason they think it's easier to sell things online that it is in the off-line world. If that truly were the case there would be more success stories on the Internet than there are.

If you are going to make money selling things online you will need a lot of traffic to your website. Even in niches that are not as competitive you still need a certain percent of traffic that you can convert into actual sales.

3. You will need to learn Internet marketing skills. The only exception to this will be if you outsource all of your advertising and marketing support.

Even then you will need to learn how to outsource correctly. I would classify that as being an Internet marketing skill.

If you are going to do some of the work yourself you need to master a least a couple of traffic generation skills. This would include how to build an email list and follow up with it.

It would also include a mix of paid and free advertising so you are deriving as much possible traffic as you can.

4. Focusing on getting one website profitable is a major key to your success. Too many Internet marketing newbies jump around from one product to the next without ever making any money at any of them.

The real key to making money is to find a product that you can believe in, create review pages around that product, and then market those online.

If you are dealing with a viable product that people have a need for you will make some sales. If you're able to find a niche where people are actually spending money right now you can even create sales at a faster rate.

In the beginning as an Internet marketing newbie what you do not know cannot hurt you. However as you begin to understand the competitiveness of the Internet you will need to master some skills to be successful.
