The benefits of extra training cannot be emphasised enough. Once you have the core foundation of your skills set, that is not the end of the story. As your career develops, you may feel the desire to expand your existing skills set with new talents. Extra training also helps you to update your skills and perhaps discover and develop new ones that you didn't even realise you had!

Don't just 'stick with what you know'.
While the temptation to 'stick with what you know' may seem like the safest option, expanding your horizons by taking on training in a new area could bring its own rewards. If you feel that your career has become stuck in a bit of a rut, then a new learning experience could quickly invigorate your career and even expand the possibilities to move into new and more exciting areas of work. For those in the legal profession, continual training is a requirement, but it shouldn't be looked upon as a chore - it should be regarded as an opportunity.

While your basic core skills may be perfectly adequate for you to fulfil your current role successfully, additional training can take you into new areas that were previously unavailable to you. One of the most popular training areas is in the field of compensation claim law, with a growing market and greater opportunities to help those who rely on highly trained and experienced professionals to get them the compensation that they deserve. Compensation cases don't just need a representative with experience of court procedure - a case may require you to have a good understanding of Health and Safety legislation or the Road Traffic Act to succeed. Being able to adapt the service you offer to incorporate these aspects means that you will be able to help more clients achieve success in their claims and quite possibly change lives.

Make yourself more desirable to employers.
Updating your skills set with additional training can also make you more desirable to employers, should you consider a career move. It also makes you a greater asset to your existing employer by showing initiative, a desire to improve your skills and to deliver a better quality of service to clients. All of these reflect well not only on you but also on the company or firm you work for. A good reputation is the foundation of a successful career, and having a reputation as someone who is constantly striving to improve their skills is a sure way to boost your reputation amongst your peers.

Choose carefully.
Choosing what extra training to take should be considered carefully, as training that has no relevance to you is a waste of both time and money. So be selective - pick training that enables you to utilise your core skills and expands upon them to broaden your base. Pick key areas that both interest you and will be of benefit to your career advancement. Invest both your time and your money wisely. Training is the perfect way to expand your existing skills if you select your courses carefully. If you're feeling that your career could do with a boost, then training can give you that push you need to break out of the mundane and explore a new, more challenging field. All of this helps to boost your credentials and showcase your enthusiasm, your skills and your commitment to delivering a quality service.
