One of the best things about pets is being able to cuddle, snuggle, and play with them. But if your pet stinks, then you probably don't want even want to be near them. Pets can carry a bad smell at times and while this is natural, it's not always pleasant. There are a few things that you can do to get remove these pet odors, but the most important thing you must do before anything else is find out the cause of the pet odor. If you don't get to the root of the problem, you'll always find yourself battling with bad pet odors.

Skin problems are one of the main causes of pet odor, and there can be many different causes of skin problems. Take a close look at your pet's skin and see if it's flaking, cracking, oozing, or if there any other noticeable blemishes. Also, if they wear a flea collar, take it off for a few days and see if that helps. Flea collars are notorious for causing skin problems. Remove the collar, and you may remove the pet odor. If it's a skin problem that's a little more complicated than just a flea collar, be sure to call your vet. They'll not only have a solution for the skin problem, but can probably also tell you how to remove the pet odor too.

There may also be other causes of pet odor that require a veterinarian's attention. One such cause might be infections of the ears or glands. These areas of a pet's body are especially prone to infection and should there be a problem, they can often cause sores to appear that can crack, ooze, or bleed. Along with these unpleasant symptoms, the infections can also carry a bad smell. Clearing up the infection might be enough in these cases to get rid of the pet odor.

If you've looked carefully at your pet and can't find any of these causes of pet odor, your pet may just have an odor that's very easy to get rid of. Pets naturally pick up odors from things like oily skin, being near their litter boxes, being outside, and picking up smelly odors in their hair or skin. These are very common causes of pet odors and fortunately, are very easy to remove by just bathing your pet regularly and ensuring that their fur and skin is always kept clean.

Sure, when your pet smells, all you want to do is remove the pet odor. The first thing you need to do before you work to get rid of it though is determine what the cause of the odor is.
