Over the last ten years, Whitstable has become a haven for British Holiday makers. With its tranquil settings, gorgeous sunsets and exquisite restaurants, it is the perfect place for either a relaxing weekend break, or a fortnights holiday.
There are a growing number of Whitstable homes that are now open for let, ranging from a few hundred pounds for a weeks holiday, to over a thousand pounds for the more luxurious premises.
Whitstable harbour is a 'must see' place for any visiting tourist. It was originally built back in 1832 by the Canterbury and Whitstable railway company and was built in order to serve the "Crab and Winkle" line. The Crab and Winkle line was the world's first passenger railway service.
Today, the harbour hosts a vast array of facilities ranging from open market stalls at weekend, a garden cafe, and the more famous Crab and Winkle restaurant.
The crab and Winkle restaurant has the perfect location with panoramic views overlooking the seafront and the historic working harbour. This is great news for any day-trippers and tourists as the restaurant's fish is caught fresh everyday and freshly prepared by the busy and friendly staff just downstairs.
The Whitstable harbour fish market is also an attraction for many visitors. Fresh fish is the order of the day with most of it being caught that morning from the town's fishermen. During the summer months Whitstable can be very busy, therefore it is highly recommended that you take lease of a Whitstable holiday let home for at least a weekend. This will allow you to avoid the heavy traffic congestion that often occurs due to the many day-trippers to the town.
No visit to Whitstable would be complete without the world famous oysters. There can be nothing better than taking in the sites, sipping champagne and eating the wonderful oysters that are served from the Whitstable Oyster Fishery.
Whatever you decide to do when you visit Whitstable, make sure you don't miss the Neptune Pub. This place is fantastic; a haven of quirkiness, fantastic ales and live music. Set right on the Whitstable beach, it is the perfect place to take in the gorgeous sunsets that Whitstable has become renowned for. The pub itself is run by two fantastic landlords called Dixie and Darren. They run the perfect pub; very friendly and they also serve great food. Make sure you give it a visit when you descend on Whitstable.
