Best Places for Photos in Sedona, AZ
Words: 472 | Date: Tue, 28 Sep 2010

You do not have to travel far to take great photos in Sedona. For starters, the Airport Mesa is one of the best places to shoot some really nice photos of sunsets. The five minute climb to the trail takes you to a place which gives you an excellent vantage point from which to take pictures of sunsets, as well as sunrises. In cooler weather, the area can get quite chilly so you should come prepared with warm clothing. To reach the Airport Mesa trail, you need to take exit 89A West from Sedona. As you approach the trail road, take a left. After a couple of miles, you will come to a dirt parking lot. A short trail to the left will take you to the Airport Mesa trail.

You can also go to Coconino National where you can take beautiful shots of Cathedral Butte and Bell Rock. A journey from Highway 179 heading North will take you to Chapel Road, half a mile away. From there, moving further East on Chapel Road, you will come across the Chapel of the Holy Cross after just under a mile. After taking some shots here, you can get back to Highway 179 and head North to reach Back O' Beyond Road after travelling almost 3 miles. When you turn left here, you can get a breathtaking view of Cathedral Rock.

The 38 mile stretch from Highway 179 to Interstate 17 via Schnebly Hill Road is an extremely beautiful route for taking pictures. You can find a lot of places along the drive to photograph this majestic landscape. The same spots on this route will look different during your drive there and back due to the different positions of the sun during the drive. But if you prefer to take a different route while returning for some wonderful sunset pictures, you can travel southbound to exit 298 and reach Sedona through Highway 179 by the Village of Oak Creek. Or you can travel northbound on Interstate 17 and drive through Oak Creek Canyon via Highway 89A.

When you drive 2 miles on Airport Road in the western direction, you will come to Dry Creek Road. Take a right here and travel northbound to reach Boynton Canyon. The Red Rocks of Arizona are famously known as the Box Canyons. The Boynton Canyon is among the most popular regions that make up the Box Canyons. You will also find the famous Enchantment Resort in the Boynton Canyon. Travelling about a mile west on Highway 89A will get you to the Red Rock Loop. You will find some of the finest points for taking pictures at the Red Rock State Park.

If you make a picture-taking weekend out of these Sedona routes, you will capture beautiful pictures and memories that you can relish for a lifetime.
