Holidays are a great time to get away from the stress of city life and hit a quiet beach. If you have an RV, it's easy to get up and go for a quick trip over the long 4th of July weekend to nearby beach destinations on Mexico's expansive northern beaches. Choosing which beach to hit can be difficult since there are so many beautiful beaches to choose from, each offering its own unique local flavor. If you haven't been to the Bahia Kino or Kino Bay in Sonora, Mexico, you should consider making it your next RV vacation destination. Only a short drive from the Arizona border, Kino Bay offers unparalleled beauty and charm.
Planning an RV beach vacation in Bahia Kino takes a little planning. Although it is fairly simple to get to Bahia Kino, a good Mexico road map, preferably Guia Roji, the most expansive of the Mexico road maps, is recommended.
At the U.S./Mexico border, you will need to show some paperwork in order to cross. This will include a valid U.S. passport, vehicle registration and proof of Mexican RV insurance. You will be issued a permit for your RV, your passports will be stamped, and you will be on your way to the beach.
From Nogales, drive down the new Mexico toll road 15D to the town of Hermosillo. From Hermosillo, it's about 100 kilometers down Mexico Highway 16 to the twin towns of Kino Nuevo and Bahia Kino.
The toll roads in Mexico are all patrolled by the Green Angles. The Green Angels are a free service that will assist you in the case of any vehicle problems, including flat tires, running out of gas, and engine issues. This is one of the major benefits of following the toll roads. Toll roads are typically in excellent condition, free of topes (annoying speed bumps found on many of Mexico's road to slow down traffic) and relatively inexpensive. Toll roads will cut down on road travel so you can spend more time enjoying the beach.
It is recommended that you make a reservation at an RV park in Bahia Kino, especially if traveling over a holiday weekend, such as the 4th of July. Although Bahia Kino is usually less crowded than other beaches such as Puerto Peñasco, farther to the north, it is still a popular destination.
One of the best RV parks in Bahia Kino is the La Playa RV and Hotel, which is located right on the beach. They offer 48 full hook-up sites for RV's up to 48 feet with private beach access. Eight private tiled bathrooms with showers and a laundry room are on-site for RV guests to use. The best part, though, are the magnificent views of the Sea of Cortes from each and every site. You can call them at 52 (662) 242.0273 to make a reservation.
Activities in Bahia Kino include swimming, snorkeling, fishing, and other water sports. Even though Bahia Kino is a small town it offers a nice selection of restaurants for those who want to eat out. However, if you like to cook, take advantage of the incredibly fresh and inexpensive fish and shrimp available here. Catch it yourself or hook up with a local fisherman and have them deliver you their catch when they return from their morning fishing trip. Where else can you have fish delivered to your door hours after it was caught?
Bahia Kino is known for its laid back charm and its normally deserted beaches. This vacationers paradise may not please the party seeker, but if you are looking for a quiet beach to relax and enjoy your 4th of July holiday then Bahia Kino is sure to please you.
